It looks like the car with its hazards on is over the line, on the shoulder. Unless this was just over the crest on an interstate, it's the truck driver's fault for not being prepared to slow down.

I beg your pardon, but where I live IT'S ABSOLUTELY, STRICTLY FORBIDDEN to stop on the middle shoulder of a six lanes highway. If you have to stop, you must move to the right lane and find a safe parking. And those who stopped here are double idiots, because they stopped out of curiosity.

That's why whoever is sane of mind doesn't stop in the left lane, or on the middle shoulder. Just not to get a distracted 18-wheeler in the ass.

I'm not saying he should have been on the inside shoulder, but he wasn't physically in the left lane. Second, the officer, whose camera we watch this unfold from, just pulled up to the scene. What do most police do when they get to the scene of an accident? They get out of the car. If I approach the police responding to an incident in the road, I slow down when I drive around them too. There was a situation on the interstate about a month ago where I live, which resulted in cars sitting still on both shoulders and in the left lane. There were no additional accidents because of it though, because everyone slowed down well in advance of the crash.

The first idiot wasn't slowing down. He was STILL. On the LEFT LANE. With the hazards ON. To see what was fuckin' happening. The other idiots, instead of passing on or moving to the right, just stopped behind him. All they deserved was an 18-wheeler in the ass, and they got it.

Because idiot Florida drivers...where the middle lane is the slow lane. I-4 between Tampa and Orlando is one of the most stressful pieces of road simply because of idiot Florida drivers...and tourists heading for The Mouse House.

As a 30 year veteran tow truck driver in Masachusetts, I've towed many cars from the left lane of the highway. It may not be legal to stop there, but sometimes it's unavoidable. When you're tooling along in traffic, and the engine suddenly quits, getting over to the right BDL isn't always so easy or safe to do when all the cars behind you start changing lanes and passing you on the right.

In the cases you describe, indeed an accident would be almost unavoidable. In those cases, should someone receive an 18-wheeler in his ass, it's because it was written that was to be his last day in this valley of tears. A little like getting up, shaving, shitting, showering, sliding, slamming one's skull and dying. Amen.
But in the case of my post here, everything started with someone stopping on the left lane's shoulder while all the road was free, just to see what was happening. And he also turned his hazards on. On the left lane, that's for overtaking and for fast moving traffic. And the middle shoulder is just a divider where the parking is strictly forbidden. It's forbidden in all the civilized world. In Florida, dunno.
And the other two idiots who arrived later, they didn't overcome him, even if the two right lanes were empty, but they stopped behind him. On the left lane. And most righteously they got an 18-wheeler in the ass.
